Special Gift from Grandchildren

I'm after a few ideas from you great peeps on here
Its my fathers 80th birthday soon and I am trying to think of a handmade gift from all the grandchildren.
The problem being the grandchildren range from 28 years old down to 10 months old and we all live apart, 10 in total
I was really after a combined project if at all possible.
One idea I had was to have all the grandchildren draw around their hand on coloured card and then write (or scribble) their name on the palm, then pop into a frame. OR
I could transfer onto fabric and sew onto a cushion cover and embroider their name on top (bit time consuming though
)
The ideas need to be special cheap home made gifts as he has requested no pressies but just donations to Cancer Research.
Thank you

You could print a photo of each of them with their name onto printable fabric which would make it quicker for you?0

I had the same problem last year, I didnt know what to get for my nan for her birthday and with all the grand/greatgrandchildren living so far away from each other, but I came up with this idea -
each of us had our photo taken with us holding a piece of paper with 1 large letter/number typed on it so 19 seperate pictures, after I had the photos emailed to me I made a collage and when all placed together the photos spelt out 'happy 70th birthday Nan'
sorry I dont think I have explained very well, hope it makes sense!0 -
curious crafter - that is an AMAZING idea! I LOVE it!
It was my Grandads 80th birthday last year and our 5 has family children, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was having a huge family meal (40 people) so we paid for his cake and did a 'This Is Your Life' style photobook for him. The book itself was not cheap at all, £50ish pounds to be exact as it was the largest size I could get. The first few pages had his bio on then each child and grandchild had their own pages in birth order with pictures of them from throughout their life and their date of birth on. He absolutely loved it, and has very proudly showed it off to EVERYONE since! Obviously this is quite expensive but I am sure you could find a cheaper photo book (ours was large and hardback) if you wanted to do something similar.
Have to say I think I will be doing curiouscrafters idea for my Grandads next birthday!0 -
Thank you Pootleflump...good idea....that would be alot easier. I think I could do that and make up a cushion cover for his favourite chair

Curiouscrafter I'll definitely be doing your idea too...no you explained perfectly clearly, think it would be GREAT!! I'm going to put it up on a huge piece of card. Give them all an A4 piece of coloured card and let them collage/paint/colour their own letter and have their piccie taken. This will then include my daughter who is travelling overseas at the moment too
Giggles Fairy...how I love that idea aswell lol..hes going to be over the moon with these pressies. I'm just going to look on ebay to see if I can find a suitable book. Think the grandchildren could all put a message under their photo....and then have other people to put their messages in at the back of the book with a few photos of the party afterwards.
Thank you both for taking the time to reply....I knew that people on here would help me
Now after another favour...any poets out there that could write a few lines to go with the photos from the grandchildren?0 -
unfortunately I can't find a picture of this idea but its a great one if you can pull it off so bear with me.........
The card I saw was made up of family members each spelling out a letter from HAPPY BIRTHDAY. They were dressed in similar bright colours and were lying on the grass on a sunny day, pictured from above. The pictures were then shrunk and put on a card at jaunty angles to spell Happy Birthday.
Perhaps each set of grandchildren/children could be given a letter(s)
Lots of effort but it produced well enough could frame afterwards!
Hope that makes sense!0 -
These do some lovely collage photo's. You could then pop it in a clip frame from Wilko's0
