    Re: cleaning lids..

what's the best routine using baby shampoo as the cleanser?

I'm still groping in the dark with this lid scrub, hot compress process tbh. I have found a lot of information on the forum on this website . http://www.lumecare.co.uk/causes_of_dry_eyes/i-59

There is a lot of rubbish spam seeped into the forum, but there are lots of posts by genuine posters so it's worth perservering as it's quite informative about the condition. They are an eye care company, so obviously bear in mind they have commercial interests, but still it is quite a comprehensive source of info.

I read in one post that there is a link to a eyelid cleansing video on the forum, but haven't had chance to find it yet. A lot say the baby shampoo is an outdated suggestion,(although they do sell special wipes!!) personally I'm using a litle salt water as don't like the idea of using the shampoo. There is also mention of heated eye mask , which maintains the heat for 10mins and was developed by an eye specialist for this purpose. Yiu are supposed to massage the eyes too, but don't really know about that.

A couple of posters mentioned that using an eyebath of salt water regularly cleared up the problem quite quickly.

Am going back to see my optician, armed with more questions next week. My eyes aren't too bad compared to some, not crusty or sticking together, or particulalry swollen now, but they feel and look tired , have a pinky brown rim around them and feel dry. There is still a little white thing where the sore swollen lump was. :(
  • Just thought I would re-visit this thread as I am currently having major issues with my eyes at the moment.

Optician sent me to the local eye hospital to have my eyes checked out as she seemed to think I had a major allergy reaction to something. However, I came out of the hospital armed with 2 lots of eye meds. Lumecare eye gel and an ointment to put in at night. I have also invested in one of those eyebags & some Blephasol.

My eyes are still pretty bad, even after a week of using the drops ect. The Dr I saw suggested using salt and boiled water to clean the lids, but I could imagine this being quite drying. However, Blephasol isn't cheap, so when this bottle runs out, I might have a go at the salt & water routine.

I currently wear fortnightly lenses, however I'm going for an eye test this week for some new glasses, so might ask if I can have some daily lenses to use for a while. I have been wearing my glasses more, but wear my lenses when I'm at the gym, due to my glasses being very heavy as I am very short sighted.

How are everyone else's eyes doing?

    Hi!

I abandoned wearing the lenses during the episode in my opening post and hav never worn them since.

Despite the Boots optician assuring me the condition was age related and not related to contact lens wearing, once the initial problem had cleared up, I have not suffered from any bleph or dry eye symptoms at all ever since and my eyes are back to normal.

Hoep you manage to get sorted, it is a real nuisance and discomfort.

    xx
  • I have never been told Bleph was related to getting older..sounds quite bizarre.

My eyes actually feel better when I wear my lenses which is a bit odd.

To be honest I'm starting to think my eyes have flared up again as an allergic reaction to something, I just don't know what.

Glad to hear you have had no issues with your eyes & that everything is back to how it should be.

Well, rightly or wrongly, it quite put me off that optician at that particular Boots. She was a very assertive pushy young woman and whilst I may be doing her an injustice professionally, my perception was of someone who was more bothered about keeping the number of contact lens contracts up at her branch, rather than someone who was really bothered about me personally :(
  • Oh dear, you don't need that kind of personality when it comes to dealing with your eyes.

Such a shame you had a bad experience Bronnie. The opticians I use is Asda. Used to go to Rayners, but for some reason I decided to give Asda a try.

They have been very good & have offered good advice about my eyes. Problem I have is I am very short sighted & need to wear glasses with glass lenses, so they are very heavy to wear on a day to day basis. Therefore I do heavily rely on being able to wear contact lenses, as I feel very vunerable when wearing my glasses & the weight on my face is not good aswell.

Without my contact lenses I can't even put makeup on or do simple things like styling my hair, plucking eyebrows ect.

For some reason, this current flare up is a lot worse & my eyes feel better when I have my lenses in. However, I am making a conscious effort to leave my glasses on when I'm not going anywhere.
  • I was diagonosed with both conditions mid 2012 (I am 35), and it comes and goes. My optition did not tell me how to deal with the blepharitis, just that I had it, and I was advised to use eye drops for the dry eye.

I now use somthing called Viscotears to keep my eyes moist which I get over the counter at the chemist, I use daily disposables "Acuview Moist" which also really help.

One thing that is worth mentioning is that I was the victim of a dodgy batch of contact lenses which really made this condition 100 times worse, the company that sent them out of behalf of my optition sent me the wrong lenses, and I did'nt realise until in passing I mentioned to my optition that the name of the lenses had changed recently, I told them what I had been sent and there had apparently been a recall, If anyone does have a problem with their eyes and lenses it is worth trying some from another batch to see if it's the lenses. I was wearing the dodgy lenses for 3 weeks before the problem was picked up and made my eyes red and sore, I had 2 eye checks during this period and my optition did not realise this was the problem. They were assuming it was all down to dry eyes and maybe an allergy.
