red wine stain on silestone worktop

Hi,
I have silestone worktops in my kitchen and thought that this material was more or less stain resistant, however I have a red wine stain on it that I have been trying to scrub off with washing-up liquid but it won´t come off. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get rid of the wine stain without damaging the worktop?

Being "wine proof" seems to be one of its selling features. check if it is warranted for an extended period of time against such staining.
  • Thank you janb5 and Lorian. I thought it was supposed to be stain proof too. I will contact Silestone and ask them what I should do, and if there is a way of getting rid of the wine stain, I will post it on here.
  • When talking to a granite supplier recently they gave a customer repair kit with each order, which had a product specially designed for drawing out stains from the surface.

This was only possible aslong as it had not been left there a very long time, he had used the product to repair water marks on a restaurant bar top several months old so you may be in luck.

I would contact your local supplier through the YP, and see if they have any if you get no joy from silestone themselves.
    I had a plan..........its here somewhere.

I haven't tried this, but Lakeland does a product called "WIne Away" which removes red wine stains.

Looking at the blurb, it's aimed at getting it out of clothes, carpets and linens, but it might be worth asking Lakeland if they think it ill work on your work surface.

  • Just to report back, I emailed Silestone and asked them how I can get the stain out. Customer service replied that normally red wine doesn´t stain silestone but if the stain was left, it may have seeped into the material and I was told that it should come off it I put CIF cream on it, leave it for 10 minutes then rub the area with a green scouring pad then to repeat if necessary. The stain has been there for a couple of weeks now and hasn´t come off with washing up liquid and a good scrub so I hope this works. I´ll let you know if this method works. thanks once again for your suggestions.

If it is a polished surface the scouring pad WILL scratch it and cause it to lose its shininess.. which may be worse then the actual stain.

Lemon juice.. says my husband.. the stonemason.. brings most stains off or just plain soapy water and let it soak it will eventually come off just with normal levels of cleaning.

One of his customers who bought a proper stone fire surround and rang him a few weeks later said this worked too.. just neat lemon juice sluiced on.

if it isn't polished.. or just 'honed' as they say.. they basically use a belt sander with a very fine grade paper on.. might be worth a try!

  • Cif won't scratch a stone Top!, even a conglomerate, the lemon juice might work though. Oranges and lemon are great for most things.

We are really struggling to know whether to choose a granite or silestone worktop. Did the red wine stain come off the silestone ? Does granite stain too?
Try and do a good deed every day.
