New Baby present for work collegue.....

A lady in my office is leaving at the end of this month to have her first baby and I'm in charge of the collection and sorting out a present but I'm a bit stuck for ideas!!

We should get about £30 minimum (small office!) but I'm lost for ideas now but I definately don't want to buy vouchers and can't buy any "specific" item as she has been given a lot of things by friends/family etc. Her scans say she's having a girl. Nappycakes are out as her mum and sister sell these so it's likely one of them will make her one!!

I would like to make up some kind of hamper so some ideas for what to put in one would be great! Not sure if to do a new baby one, a new mum one or a bit of a jokey one!

Any ideas would be greatfully received!

Thanks in advance

The best present I got from work was a Zeddy and Parsnip blanket, it was something different and I used it from day one and still use it now 7 months later.

It is large, beautiful, and super soft, used in cot, pushchair, rolled up to support baby sitting, laid out as playmat etc.

They also made me up a hamper containing things such as baby talc, shampoo, bath toys, wipes etc

I recommend a jokey hamper, I only received one jokey card, you need a laugh to get through the first few weeks

Thanks for your replies ClareEmily! I am leaning towards a jokey hamper as she has a really good sense of humour and isn't typically "mumsy" if you know what I mean! I agree, you definately need a laugh sometimes at the beginning!! I was thinking of getting a small bottle of vodka (9 months without a drink is killing her!) and plenty of energy drinks for all those sleepless nights but apart from that I'm stuck!

My friend just had a baby and I bought her for her birthday a voucher for a pedicure as I knew she wouldn't see her feet :)

When the baby was born I bought her one of these. She said it is brill and has already put things like scan pics, hospital tags, gifts etc in it. It is also personalised too. If you wanted to wait until the baby was born to add the details you could give her a certificate for now?

I also bought her a pamper set because everyone buys things for the new baby but forgets the mum. Burts bees do some nice things and there is a section specifically on the boots site.

Oh and I made her a new mum survival kit from here as a bit of fun.
  • Adorable baby clothes I just love cooing over them in shops! Maybe a little teddy aswell? I also saw a gorgeous bag for a little girl yesterday in the disney shop http://www.disneystore.co.uk/minnie-mouse-minnie-mouse-nautical-holdall-can-be-personalised/p/32956/300151/
    New year, new comper here!
Wins for January- 2 free chapsticks, Celebrations.

Snap, my best presents and the only ones I still use were a gingerbread mamas and papas blanket and a white company blanket. Baby is a year old and still used every day. Every time I need to buy a gift I get a gorgeous blanket now.

I made a hamper for 2 friends and put in all the things I found so helpful in first few weeks, all in a basket or small trug that can be used afterwards as baby's dirty linen basket. Things I included:-

Cheap fleece moses basket size blanket
Swaddle blanket (summer brand ones in Tesco's were best for us as they have velco fasteners to secure with)
Huggies gift box (contains hat, pack of nappies and pack of wipes - in Asda baby event at the moment for ?£3)
Small pack of Pampers size 1 nappies (worth having a couple of different brand nappies as they fit differently - Huggies are wider than Pampers and were too wide for my little girl we found!)
Baby all in one wash with pump action top as you only have one hand to do anything with
    Pack of Muslin cloths
Small purse size tin of Vaseline, useful for her and baby in hospital and changing bag.
Lansinoh nipple cream, if you know her well enough or will take it with good humour - it's superb stuff and well worth the price
    Bottle of dry shampoo
    Pack of ear plugs
    Bottle of wine
If she likes her cheese - Stilton and Brie!!

Total cost was approx £35, I think, with a bit of shopping around. Hooray for Asda baby events!
