Iced Christening Cake

Evening all.

It was my DS Christening last weekend and we'd had a cake beautifully iced for him (£50, I know, I know) anyway with one thing and another the cake didn't get cut and has been adorning my sideboard ever since.

We don't know what to do with it now and it seems a bit of a waste to eat a £50 cake between us and dole out a couple of portions to people we may see over the next week or so. It's his birthday in November, its a fruit cake which was baked the weekend before his birth for his Christening (at the smae time as our Xmas cakes).

If we wrap it up and put it somewhere safe will it still be okay in 6 months time in near similar condition to now or are we best off just tucking into it now? Any thoughts?

its fruit cake so it will only get better. It used to be traditional for the top layer of the brides cake to be used as a christening cake. so if it's fruit cake and royal icing then wrapping it airtight should help it keep. if its fondant icing - I am not sure how long that keeps. I suspect that it should be eaten fairly quickly.
Etiquette should be that if the guests werent offered cake at the event it should be nicely sliced and boxed and sent to them within a couple of weeks.
