Where do I stand with mortgage protection?

This is only my second ever post so be gentle with me, please!
I've been searching to see if anyone has been in the situation I now find myself in. I was permanently employed, working full-time. The company has "persuaded" me to leave. I've signed a compromise agreement, but have not been made redundant. I asked my solicitor what would happen if I refused to sign the agreement - she said they would dismiss me anyway. I asked on what grounds they could do this, as I haven't done anything wrong, but was advised that because of my length of service (2 weeks short of one year) they can dismiss anyone without giving a reason.
I'm sure you can see from this that I really had no choice - one way or another I was going to be out of work. My query is, however, will my mortgage provider, with whom I have total mortgage protection, see it that way, or will they say I have chosen to be unemployed?
Any advice/ experience would be most appreciated.
