Shabby Chic Garden Party Ideas Please

Hi

We are having a naming ceremony for my new DD in June and we are having a garden party/bbq afterwards. I really would like a shabby chic feel for the decor but spend as little as possible so looking for any ideas. I have managed to acquire two gazebo's so thats a start.

Any ideas to how I can achieve this?

  • What shabby chic party would be complete without bunting. Easy to make (even better if you can use fabrics that mean something to you, such as fathers old shirts, old kids clothing) or lots around in shops at mo (capitalise on the royal wedding excess of bunting). Also lovely idea to get old tea cups from charity shop and make them into candles, or just pop tea lights into them and spread around garden. Enjoy

Ooh that's such a lovely idea :) I'd also suggest bunting, maybe spell the baby's name on it then you can hang it in their nursery afterwards? I'd also suggest some lovely vintage teacups and saucers, could use for a good old cuppa or as a decoration for candles. Our local flea market does 6 items for £1 and always has loads of lovely vintage teacups, but could be worth trying charity shops or carboots too. Some nice cake stands with either finger sandwiches and scones and cupcakes on would look nice for a garden party theme. You could also get some vintage lace-edged napkins and tie them with a little bit of ribbon.
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

Hi am thinking of doing a shabby chic picnic for my dd 2nd bday and one of the ideas I had was to use second hand teacups and bake cupcakes in them so they travel better but look cute too!

How about using teapots to put flowers in.
Use a whicker basket (hamper style with lid) to put the plates and cutlery in .
Fairy lights look pretty and you could dot empty jam jars with tea lights around the garden (or along a pathway etc) if it is going on into the evening.
If you're a sewer you could make your own washable napkins, in different flower fabric or pastel shades...they could match the fabric bunting. Either buy fabric or visit a jumble and buy lots of different flowery/pastel/check fabrics.
You could make paper lanterns for decorations, hanging from trees/gazebo or on ribbon in a row.
Cake stands will look great with Tea party Food on them, if you havent got cake stands you can make your own using candlesticks and popping the plate on top. Using different levels and different plates will make the effect look even better.
Use tablecloths or sheets on tables.
Visit jumble sales and car boots for all the bits and pieces and you'll be able to finish it off nice and cheaply ;)
Have food like scones, jam & cream, sandwiches, cup cakes, chocolate fingers, strawberries and cream. How about making your own ice lollies for the children using fruit juice or lemonade, they normally go down really well.

Hope it gos really well...I think its going to look great :)

We had a similar theme for our wedding. I managed to buy 10 tea sets (6 cups, saucers, side plates as well as sugar bowls etc) for around £20 from local charity shops. We made bunting by folding paper doilies in half and gluing onto ribbon. Collect milk bottles, old jars etc and
use for flowers or tea lights. We also got hold of loads of cheap paper lanterns from china town and strung these up from the gazebos and trees and they looked lovely and really effective.
