Natwest life insurance

Options
Hi, I have been looking through my direct debits today and have a payment to natwest life insurance, I have never asked or wanted it
it has been coming out my account for along time and just thought this was the cost for the account. They did the same thing with my partner.

Has anyone else had this problem and are you able to claim it back?

thanks for your help.

It is impossible to have life assurance set up without you knowing for it. You need to complete a health declaration after answering a range of insurance questions and you need to provide your doctors details.

What makes you think you can reclaim the premiums?

Nothing you have said indicates a mis-sale.

However, I am intrigued to know how they set up a life policy without knowing the answers to the life questions and your GP name and address. Also, interesting to know how you didnt get the cancellation notices and the personal illustration that goes with that and in another post the policy documents that are sent out. There are lots of stages there with some bits being issued centrally and some locally.

I'd get in touch with them and find out what you have, when you took it out etc. Don't just cancel the direct debits out of hand. You never know, the thing you're covered for might just take place before you even know you're covered for it.

Wel my partner changed her bank not so long ago and the documents come through the post but thought it was one of the advantages of the account but then noticed the charge each month and then the charge for the account.

To my knowlage I am not aware of receving such items only brought it to mind when she mentioned it in her account.

I have booked an appointment to go in and see the person whol set both accounts up and to see what the situation is.

I know I im debt but as anyone else would do is to look at where to save money and yes this is the same thing and if I can claim money back why not if I didn't ask nore want it. I already have life cover with my work pension so why would I want this?

thanks for your help we will see what this chap has to say.

It's very common indeed for people to want life cover over and above the cover their pension provides. (And in many cases an adviser would be negligent if they didn't recommend it).

For example, you might have cover through work of 4x salary. If you have young children and a mortgage, 4x salary is unlikely to be enough. In any case, what if you change jobs? Have to leave on the grounds of ill health and then can't get life cover?

I'm not saying that you should or shouldn't have additional life cover - I know nothing about your circumstances - I'm just pointing out that the fact you have cover through work does not in itself imply that the policy is unsuitable for you.

Death In Service cover is lump sum life cover provided by your employer and pays a benefit on death during your time of employment. Can you be more specific as you seem to be suggesting some kind of restriction or limitation?

Death in service doesn't mean anything like death in the line of duty. Not restricted to work causing it. Being hit by a bus while walking the dog would be covered.
