Over 46 pounds Special Delivery is needed. Recorded is no good as it gives no more insurance cover than a CoP with first/second class.

sorry you're right, having been out of the selling game for a while had forgotten:o

It is probably at the delivery office awaiting collection. I find very few things really go missing - they normally hang around for 3 weeks then get returned.

About 90% of the items i've had go missing are standard parcels.

Don't know what the Royal Mail do with them.

I only use it up to 2KG, and for items low in value. Any heavier or more valuable and a courier is the best option.

Good luck with Royal mail - you will probably need it.

Strangely enough standard parcels have been very good to me. I have a lot of items around the 2-3kg mark (I have three going today) I label them at home drop them off at the sorting office and would usually expect them to arrive very early next week. I do have the advantage though that they go straight into the sorting cages at my local mail centre.

OP, did you have a good clear return address on it?

When the item was sold the postage stated that it would only be sent Standard Delivery unless they were to pick up the item. The buyer chose to have it sent instead of collecting.

I just hate having to pay out for other peoples errors!

They went straight to the dispute.

Imagine if you purchased something from an online shop, and it got lost in the post, would you be happy for the seller to shrug their shoulders, say you'll get no refud and blame you for not purchasing postal insurance? Of course you wouldn't, it's upto the seller to get the goods to the buyer safely.

  • It could also be that the buyer had the wrong address listed on his paypal account... this has happened to me before, (luckily I check the address before I post.) Also it's good to have a return address on the back in case it gets lost then it can be returned to you.

i send everything i sell on ebay by recorded delivery or courier.

you then have a tracking number, but in the last 3 yrs 60% of items i sent recorded (signature required) have only been posted through letterboxes without a signature, so you complete a form with royal mail as you paid for a premium server they never carried out and all they send is a we are sorry letter and a book of 1st class stamps, which to me is useless as i always use their online print postage service.

I won't argue against a courier as I think for some items they are a must. However I would ask why use recorded if you get to pay 77p extra for a service that doesn't work?

I use standard 2nd class post on most of my UK items, and on the very rare occasions I have a lost parcel I get paid out with no real problems.

Also of course this is all immaterial on this thread as the OP woul dhave needed to use an enhanced service to get full postal insurance against loss which I think has been well covered on the previous posts.

Same, I am fed up with Standard Parcels.
Delivery seems to vary from either next day right up to two weeks later, it is too unreliable for me.
Also RM have lost a couple of my parcels in the past few months so I am now sending out only by courier.
Not that much more expensive and its guaranteed next day with tracking.
