How does a republic of ireland person apply for a national insurance number?

Hi,

I know someone from the republic who wants a part time job in the north, just wondering where does he go to get his national insurance number?

    OP have they tried asking their prospective employer, they should be able to help them out.

    on a serious note, stevies suggestion is best. You're employer should know the proper protocol.....hope you don't mind being called Marik Pordorski for a while:rotfl:

    Call into your local JBO or SSO and tell them you wish to apply for one. They will fill out a form for you and then send this to NINO section which there a few in N.I, the one in Belfast being in Shaftsbury Square JBO.

    You will then be made attend an interview and after this you will get a NINO. Usually doesnt take long, 8days I think.
