a few years ago my dad decided to put their decorations up and he made it look like santa's grotto, there wasn't a piece of ceiling that didn't have tinsel on it, all the walls had lights on, when my mum and i walked in we just stood there mouths open, we couldn't even speak, when my mum could talk it only took her 2 mins to tell dad what she thought, they came down straight after and only took about 10 mins lol, needless to say dad has never surprised her again :rotfl:

just in case anyone cares.....we're down to the couch covers now. mrs teb found me hiding and gave me a to do list. for the sake of a peaceful life.....:o

I'm afraid its the same in our house. The whole place is cleaned right through before the decorations go up. If nothing else, its a chance to get everyone to put (or throw) their [STRIKE]rubbish[/STRIKE] things away.0

This year, my decs are up for the duration. But last year my eldest, and her friends, decided to help out and decorate.
I'm a stickler for symmetry and colour co-ordination...clearly from their efforts, they weren't
Not wanting to put a downer on their efforts, I tried hard to put up with them all evening. But, within 5 mins of her going to bed that night, I knew I couldn't live with them all Christmas; I ended up taking them down and re-doing them
Embarassingly, she knows me so well; her and her mates had taken bets on how long they would last; I think I outdid even the earliest estimate tho

i must say although our dec's went up on sunday i had made sure i had given the lounge a really good clean before they went up, washed all windows. didn't do curtains but then i did them about 6 weeks ago.
my hubby helped this year and i must say he did very well. i like dec's to match the colour of the room and he did a fab job.0 -
teb wrote:Ours have. mrs teb was out shopping so i thought i'd be helpful and get all the decs out of the loft and start putting them up. seems you cant put the decs up until the windows are clean and the curtains have been washed and the couch stripped and covers washed and ALL surfaces have been thoroughly dusted and every corner hoovered.
decs are back in the loft until the weekend when operation clean will be over.
men never make things as complicated.

She can't accuse you of not trying. :rolleyes:I made a mistake once, believeing people on the internet were my virtual friends. It won't be a mistake that I make again!0 -

I have to do a big clean before i put our decs up, however, once they are up, i clean around them rather than move them, so normally a big clean when i take them back down again!!!!0
