MBNA are one of the ones who crop up on here from time to time as not stopping interest. This is especially true when your payments are sufficient to pay the interest with a few pounds spare. If you and CCCS have both written to them then there is little you can do about it. They are under no obligation at all in these circumstances.

If you are lucky you might get passed on to debt collectors but it won't be very soon if you can pay the interest.

Have other lenders stopped the interest? If they have you should take some comfort in the interest savings you have already made.

Sorry its not what you wanted to hear.
    Regards

Does anyone know how i can get MBNA to stop charging me interest on my CC. I am on a DMP with CCCS i pay MBNA £50 a month and my interest charged is £43.18. I have written to them on numerous occassions which they ignore !!!! my total debt with them is £2110.

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Many Thanks

I know it may strike the fear of god in to us.. But have you actually spoken with them and asked they why, and if they dont offer ask?

Unfortunatley letters at MBNA can simply be processed without actually them doing anything...

MBNA passed my owed debt to a DCA and now my interest has been frozen.

So, hopefully the same will happen to you.

@sgx.saint which DCA did they pass your's too?

I managed after 6 goes, to get them to freeze interest and charges, but they said my debt would be "legally assigned" to a DCA in the near future, just wondering which one :)

    Link Financial is the DCA.

    Hope that helps :)
  • I have two credit card debts with MBNA. One is for £5000, the other is for £1000.

MBNA would ring me once, twice, nay thrice daily. They would threaten me with all sorts:court orders, charging orders, doorstep collectors. They refused to freeze interest and charges. I got several letters a week stating that "YOU ARE NOT CO-OPERATING WITH US" The letters and phone calls resulted in me being a crumbling, crying wreck. But then I discovered this site and CCCS.

Anyway, eventually MBNA sold my debts to Link Financial and 1st Credit. These companies have both accepted my £5 per month payments, and have frozen interest and charges. I expained to them that I am an NHS agency nurse and that due to the NHS deficit of millions of pounds I am unable to to work the amount of shifts that I could before. I acnowledged that the debts were solely my responsibility, but I couldn't take responsibility for government policy.

Link Financial really surprised me - they said as long as I paid the £5 per month there would be no problem. 1st Credit told me that they couldn't ask for more money than the CCCS told them I could afford, which was £5 per month - apparently CCCS work on the same figures that a court would allow for living expenses. (This is what 1st Credit said).

Ok, so maybe Link and 1st will turn nasty later on, but at least I have some breathing space for a few months until Tony and Patricia realize that the NHS actually needs nurses after all. If/when this happens, I will be earning enough money to pay the debts off.

Thanks, it'll give me a heads up over who they'll probably pass my debt to.

I got the same with MBNA about not co-operating, so I wrote to the Financial Ombudsman Service and ever since they've (MBNA) been very nice(ish).

My Credit Card debt got passed over to them quite quickly actually. I would say after about 4 months. Then again, perhaps that isn't that quick! :)

Yea, mine's just coming up to the 4 month mark as well.
Reading between the lines they gave me a choice, allow interest and pay a little, stop interest and have the debt sold.

I don't care, I'm kind of hoping someone will save me the £550 sooner or later anyway.
