Northern Rock PPI - cheaper direct

A work colleague wanted to take out a loan with NR. He gets a phone quote and turns down PPI without a murmur from the salesman.
Agreement arrives and, you've guessed it, PPI is included. Extra cost works out as £42 extra a month for 5 years. Thats over £1500 :eek:

So colleague phones back to get the PPI off the agreement and gets the full treatment from them. He starts pretending he is being persuaded and gets more information. The PPI is with a company called Pinnacle, so my friend phones them direct. He gets a quote from them for exactly the same cover for £17 a month, saving £300 a year. :j

So he phones back NR and says he wants the loan and will set up his own PPI. NR start waffling about how his PPI must be as good as theirs to be accepted. He tells them it is seeing as its the same policy from the same company. They gave him the loan.

Best of all it turns out he has not taken the PPI at all, he just wanted to shut them up and get the loan.

Smart man. :A
