Old Hair Styles - 1945 Hair style for VE Day celebrations

My daughter has been told to come dressed in 1945 style clothes tomorrow for VE Day and I hadn't got a clue how to dress her or do her hair (she is 12).
Regarding the hair style. If anyone else has school age kids with long hair this YouTube vid may help you, I am going to give it a go later when she arrives home from school.

The sound isn't great but it will give you an idea how to do it and it does look quite easy.

Now to find her some clothes to wear.

You can use cotton wool as 'rats' to keep the rolls firm if she's dressing as an adult. You might like to roll the back under as well to have a more practical daytime style. If dressing as a child, I am told that girls had pigtails and if they were lucky, ribbons.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

I think I am going to dress her more in adult style but without any make up, so will have a go at the up one.
Her hair is very long, nearly down to her bum plus I only have a few hair clips and can't get out to buy any more.
I'll give the YouTube one a go, wish me luck as I am normally quite naff at 'doing' hair styles, I played with cars as a kid instead of dollies!0 -
If it's all going a bit wrong (I have a DD with long hair and a hatred of sitting still unless the TV is on), try french plaiting it, rolling it up as though you were poking it up through the underside of the plait, IYSWIM, and pinning it at the nape of her neck, then sweeping up just above the ears to get the lift without the rolls.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
