Cheap entertainment?

Hi looking for ideas and inspiration for evening reception entertainment, particularly in the Aberdeen area?
We have a mix of english and scots coming to our wedding, and would love a ceilidh to start off the reception, then entertainment to keep the guests on the dancefloor all night. Making sure the evening is a fab party is really important to us, but the bands we've looked at are charging between £800-£1400 for the nights entertainment! Way out of our price range!
Whats everyone doing for entertainment? Our budget is £500 max!
Ideas, help and advice always welcome, judgements and assumptions are not!!

perhaps you need to look at solo artists or duos as they tend to be cheaper than paying for a larger band. They can still provide a great sound and for a fraction of the cost. Failing that try any local colleges or unis and see if any students have a band and ask if you can listen to a sample of their work.
