Reclaiming National Insurance on expenses

in Cutting tax
I am a contractor, and have been saddled with a BR tax code for a while now that no-one seems to want to take responsibility for changing (i.e. I do everything asked of me but it never changes). At the end of the year I reclaim any tax owing to me and all is well.
There is a problem though -- at a previous assignment I received 44p per mile for using my own car for work travelling. This was taxed (employer's and employee's NI plus income tax). I have been able to reclaim the income tax on the first 40p of this (since all business miles are reclaimable at this rate for the first 15,000 miles) but the NI is still left paid.
I understand that the employer's NI is lost in this case, I accept that, but I was wondering what options are open to me regarding reclaiming the NI on this mileage. It's only going to run to a few hundred pounds but if it is feasible I'd like to at least try to regain cash that I feel is owed to me.
Any help gratefully received.
