Lower my council tax band due to new shop?

Hi,
I moved into a new build about a year ago. It is a row of 14 terraced houses. I unfortunately missed the 6 month window to contest my council tax. I am down as a band E, but believe I should be a D. A new mini-supermarket has now been built at the end of our road, closest to House 1. House 1 and 2 are banded as C, and are exactly the same as my house, all the others are E. Could I claim that the new shop has devalued my house, and that I should be a D, as the ones close to the shop are C?

You can make a proposal on the grounds of physical change in the area and material reduction. More info on VOA website http://www.voa.gov.uk/If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

I'd be quite interested to hear the outcome Cat2011, I have lived in a terraced house in a reasonably quiet one way road for over 2 years and recently, a very popular restaurant opened up right in front of my house, add to that, a massive sainsburys is going to be built next to it. I'm so fed up with it that I cannot believe I'm paying £140 CT a month. I can't even park my car in my road, so ends up about 10 min walk away!0

If similiar houses are a lower band you have a very good case for appealing your band. Go for it the worst they can do is say no.Iva started Dec 2018.0

If the other houses are exactly the same are in the lower band then go for re-valuation.
The fact a shop has opened locally on the road has no bearing on the value for council tax.

Houses similar to mine are band D, I am band B. I also pay business rates on part of my property, they do not0

On the contrary, if a dwelling is next to or opposite a shop in a residential area, this could reduce its value and thus possibly the CT band. I'm ex VOA and saw several such requests for a lower band.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

The worst they can do is to increase the bands of the lower banded houses, as I did several times whilst at the VOA.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
