Am I entitled to use the slogan?

I have used the slogan 'proud to have dealt with my debts' as Martin says we can do that if we are now debt-free.
However, I sometimes think I am using it under false pretences, as I was debt-free before I discovered this site and didn't do it the MSE way.
Basically, we bunged the credit card debts onto the mortgage of an investment property we had, and then six months later sold the property, clearing all the debt/mortgage in one go.
I don't feel I've done it the right way and therefore feel a bit guilty using the slogan. I AM proud to have dealt with our debts, even though we've maybe had it easier than some.
Please reassure me I'm not using the slogan under false pretences!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Do you live MSE stylee now or at least advocate it to others who are struggling? Do you support people who are trying to clear their debts?
Do you appreciate what you do have and not take anything for granted?
Will you try & live your life debt free from hereonin?
If you can answer these with a yes well, you get my vote!

To Willsnarf; we have already saved more than the amount of debt (not including the mortgage).
To LookingAhead: Yes, yes, yes and yes! (although I thought your last question said 'will you try and live your life free from heroin?' :rotfl:
We have taken early retirement and only have a very small income now. Our houses in the UK and Spain are both paid for. We live mainly on cash, only have one credit card which we only use occasionally for things like flights and then pay the bill straightaway, we have no loans and owe no-one anything. We usually cook from scratch and only have one car. We don't have Sky. Since we moved to Spain we don't have a microwave, a dishwasher, a tumble dryer, a hairdryer or an iron (because we don't need them).
So yes, hopefully that is MSE way of life and if I can help and/or encourage anyone else I will do so.
Thanks to you both.(AKA HRH_MUngo)
