Quite simply, useless with money. Got used to having 2 full time salaries coming in and not worrying about paying things off. When i fell pregnant, i lost my salary, had to make serious cutbacks, but just couldnt catch up. we've been sinking ever since.

i had a credit card at 16 as my then partner co-signed for me as i was still at school. felt all grown up and was very responsible with it. the following year we got married and then it came in for a real hammering. this was the early 80"s limit was £2500 and once reached that merrily went along for 3 years paying the minimum, until we broke up and one day wanted to use it as was really strapped for cash and realised my amount available was about £200!! was horrified when realised all my monthly payment was pure interest. got a extra job and worked like hell to clear it off. from then became a real star and although had loans were all 0 per cent and made credit cards work for me. continued in this way until my met my ex husband who later down the line had a suitcase full off loans, bills, hp, overdraft and court letters. i helped sort him out and we paid it all off leaving £12000 still owing with halifax but at a manageable monthly payment. then we got married, he lost his job and i became disabled. just when we had things back on course he walked out leaving me with £30,000 of debt and stupidly all in my name bar his original £12,000. our last weeks together were spent arguing over him wanting a new car for himself even though we had mobility car and i would not go along with it as i knew we couldnt afford it. anyway as it turned out stupid man went straight to car showroom room after walking out and got a sports car on hp, which he then sold at a loss to buy something more practical and has been building up debt again from what i hear. so my good name is now no more, he has it. and me well i am just left with it all, thanks to mse have got it all under control but it will take many many years to pay off with one ending in 2065 from tax credit (doubt i will be around for final payment on that) just hoping i one day will get back to being debt free and have a clear record

Not being able to say no when family asked to 'borrow' money, being made redundant and using credit for every day things, temping - using credit to cover shortfall.

mine again is like everyone else credit cards.

got two cc 2 months after turning 18 another a month later, just for the free mobile phone lol. acted like it was free money and bought rubbish with it that i really 'needed' when i was in college

then started work and got an overdraft, lived off the credit cards, consolation loans followed, 9 of them and another credit card.

last loan was for £24k where the person selling it me, after looking at my ingoings and out goings stated that ' i would be alright if i ate up my boyfriends' i had no money left after paying rent and bills and this last loan repayment.

then finally went to a dmp. Debts clear now tho :)
my defaults come off this year so hoping to get back on track and hope i can get a mortgage and get my life back. its been a really really hard 12/13 years living with debt

tbh i have been getting bored after my debt was paid off needed a new battle with the banks lol :) really like being the one chasing them for money instead of them chasing me :)
