Bizarre house valuing, can we actually meet with the district valuer?

Hi Folks,
Some time ago last autumn I posted about how we were considering requesting to get the house revalued for rates purposes (the short story is we bought a semi detached house, then the one attached to it fell into disrepair and eventually we persuaded the owners to sell to us. We then did the house up, converted the loft and joined it on to our house so instead of two semis we now have one big one).
It seems we might have been better just paying rates on both houses separately as the valuers have valued the one house at more than the value of each house added together into very large sum.
So, what can we do? Can we actually meet with the district valuer to discuss what calculations they used?
They also got my name wrong (though husband's right) and used a strange name we have never seen before for the name of the house we are living in and also the new number of the house wrong.
Frankly I feel stupid now for even raising it with them in the first place.
Cheers,
BatCat

You can appeal with 28 days of receipt of a valuation http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/lps_valuation_appeal_form-2.pdf0
