what was your health & fitness lightbulb moment?

it's May and my annual new years resolution of 'eat better and exercise more' has once again failed to get off the ground. I'm full of good intentions, but I have at best only half-heartedly made good on them. Well, most of them... the exercise one is still very much at the 'thinking about it' stage
so what was the lightbulb moment for you that made you get up of off your (ever lardier) backside and change your lifestyle? where do I find the self discipline and motivation to step away from the biscuit tin and towards my running shoes?

mine is a little tealight sometimes, but it soon gets blown out again... terrible I know. I'm back on WW again after hearing my knees creaking as I climbed the stairs last week - they've never done that before!!:oMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Mine was last May. We were on holiday and I was almost 19 stone
I was in agony with siatica, had no energy, constantly out of breath, couldn't do anything with the kids
I thought to myself "I'm 30, I shouldn't be like this". Driving home I vowed to myself that when we went on holiday next year (this year - going in 2 weeks!), I would be slimmer and fitter....
As of today, I am 2lbs away from being 7 stone lighter!I cannot tell you the difference it has made to not just my life, but my family's life too. I am healthier, fitter, I can run around with the kids. I love going to the gym! (never thought I'd hear myself say that lol). I love being able to walk around, up and down hills without feeling like I need an oxygen tank! If anyone's struggling, not just weight wise but fitness wise too, please believe me it's worth the effort!

mine was the birth of my daughter. we wanted our children really close together and now have 3 under 5
when she was born i knew she was my last, so no more excuses for holding onto extra weight . shes 8 weeks old, been to slimming world and lost 20lb so far and dropped 2 dress sizes.
the motivtion to get my !!! into the gym is burning strong. ok i dont go as often as i should but 3 kids, work and uni all make for a hectic lifestyle but i enjoy going and actually make time to go, i did the 5am feed this am and was in the gym for 6 - home for 7.15 to wake kids and oh up.0 -
Wow some great motivation going on here - well done Miley and Brian's daughter - am in awe!!
My lightbulb moment - seeing a photo my DS2 took when I wasn't aware. It wasn't just the weight though - it was the whole "bag lady" look - truly awful - am now doing a bit of pampering, exercise, WW and just generally trying to dress better.
Want to lose at least 2 stone, get fit and healthy and be able to wear nice clothes.
Good luck everyone.0 -
It is not healthy for me this month. I am suffering from bruises and some rashes.0

I don't really believe that there is an actual 'lightbulb moment' as such
I find it more helpful to view the whole thing as individual mini decisions, rather than one big overnight life changer. The reality is that even if you have decided to lose weight and get fit, the actual doing it is a series of small changes day after day. So I think more in terms of what I will eat for this meal/snack, will I get off the bus a bit earlier and walk etc. This takes the pressure off so that you don't end up thinking that eating a cake one day means that you have blown it forever and give up totally.
Also try to find activity that you enjoy for its own sake rather than exercise for the sake of getting fit alone. I love competitive sport, so play tennis but couldn't stomach going to the gym. Gardening, dog walking etc still count as exercise, so think outside the box if you aren't sporty0 -
I had a proper lightbulb moment.
I cant remember exactly why, but I had to run somewhere in my break at work and it was the first time I had ever felt my belly bounce seperately to the rest of me! I signed up for WW that afternoon.Proud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0
