Scone Wedding cake?

Hi All,

I was planning on making cupcakes for our wedding cake and serving them as desert but am getting worried about how far in advance I would need to make (need 150) them so have been considering alternatives!

So I was thinking of maybe making scones instead! They would still go on the 7 tier cupcake stand I bought. I was thinking could put some jams and cream on the tables then people can fill themselves

What do you think?

I think thats a lovely idea, very civilised!
but wont you have the same baking issues with scones as you would with cupcakes?

we are doing our own cupcakes and making them soon for our july 2nd wedding and freezing them, so theres no last minute panic

I would deffo go with the cupcakes. Homemade scones really only taste great on the day they are baked. You can freeze cupcakes for up to a month. Just defrost and decorate the day before.

Oh I love the idea of a scone wedding cake!! Drool!! But I don't know whether it is doable given the above advice. I'd never thought of freezing cupcakes. :)

awesome if it could work. Not sure though.

I know I used to work in a tea shop when I was a student and some scones got frozen, and defrosted later, so they can freeze, but I never ate any of the frozen ones.

Love scones with jam and cream. Drooool.

Bad codemonkey, bad. You're on a diet.

i think that it would be hard work baking all those scones on the morning of your wedding - cupcakes would be easier in my opinion

The trouble is I dont like cupcakes that have been frozen, it would also leave alot of icing to be done on the morning/day before plus transporting them, the icing could get ruined etc etc

With scones, I cant tell any difference between ones that have been frozen and not so could do the weekend before and just get out the freezer onthe morning. Also transportation issues are less!!!

    hmmmm lots to consider!!

Barley anyone touched the scones at my wedding they had dried out to much i guess. I never wanted fruited ones anyway! Good job we had plenty of other types of cake.
