I got a job.....at last

I`ve been out of work since March 2010 and was dismissed for issues with record keeping. So last year was my `annus horribilis. I could only sign on for 6 months with JSA and have been making cakes for son`s work and generally just surviving. I applied for loads of jobs but apart from a Christmas temp at M & S didnt get anywhere.
I took my CV to Waitrose which is a stone`s throw from where I live and I now have work for Saturday and Sunday. Only 8 hours to start with but hopefully can pick some other shifts. I now have a rescue dog to keep me fit and active and generally feel so much calmer after the events of last year and all the horrors. Best of all, my previous employers referred me to the NMC so my registration could have been confiscated but the NMC chucked it out and I`m in the clear.
Sorry for whittering on but just wanted to say there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Well done! There is a good chance you can pick up extra shifts as I expect a fair few of their staff are students who can only work at weekends and in the evenings. As you'll have 7 day a week availability there's the chance to pick up a lot of weekday shifts.
The key to getting extra hours is to make it known you'll do whatever shift, whether it starts at 7am or 8pm. If it is a 13 hour shift then just do it. Once you get known as the "go to" person every section manager will see you first if they have a spare shift as they want an easy life and hate having to beg staff to work extra. When you regularly start doing lots of hours then push like crazy to get your hours increased permanently and keep reminding them every week.0 -

Fantastic advice.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0
