WITHOUT A P45 THE NEW EMPLOYER IS OBLIGED TO DEDUCT EMERGENCY TAX. YOUR CODE NO WILL BE 503L WEEK 1. WHEN THE TAX OFFICE GIVES YOU THE CORRECT CODE-PROBABLY 503L, YOU WILL GET ANY OVERPAID TAX REFUNDED IN YOUR PAY.
YOU HAVE TAX FREE ALLOWANCE ON THIS CODE OF ABOUT £98 PER WEEK. AFTER THIS YOU PAY TAX AT10% ON THE NEXT £40 APPROX AND THEN AT 22%. iF YOU ARE LUCKY TO BE A VERY BIG EARNER-IN EXCESS OF £600 A WEEK YOU WILL THEN PAY TAX AT 40%-LUCKY MAN!0 -
When you "sign off" JSA, the jobcentre will send you a P45. You hand this to your new employer. Alternatively you can fill in form P46 and tick box B and hand this to your employer.0

i sent one of these off today in work does anyone know how long about it takes for them to get back to you with your tax code?0

Your employer is responsible for actioning the appropriate code on the basis of what you have indicated on the p46,and sending off the form to the tax office, not you. Incidentally all emergency code means is that you will not be paid any refund until tax office puts you on cumulative code. You do not pay any extra tax on a week by week basis as a result.
Timeframe-depends could be a couple of weeks, could be longer.
Previous poster was correct when he said that you should have had p45 from job centre as JSA is taxable. What happened to it?0 -
this is my first job put should i have still got a p45 of the dole even though i havent worked before0
