Dyeing sponge/foam

Does anyone have tips for dyeing sponge/foam, and have the colour set and water-proof?

:) Hi there, I'm an ex-theatrical prop-maker and have done all sorts with all sorts inc foam and if there is a way to dye it, I've never heard of it.

You can spray it with car paint to get an effect although it will end up a touch stiff and crispy, if you see what I mean.

Any particular reason for wanting it a different colour btw?

PS the easiest way to cut foam is with an electric carving knife. HTH.

Yes, so I can stick it in a blender. :rotfl:

A couple of my friends makes model scenery for some games that they play. Coloured foam can be used to act as tree foliage, or bushes, after it's been blended down to fine pieces. Obviously, it has to have the colour of foliage to look like a tree. :D

I've made some by blending a standard yellow sponge, and then adding thin green paint to it. The paint drains out as it dries though, so it's not a very good result.

There's an example here: Woodland Scenics
