Cost of sending Xmas cards abroad - cheaper option

Check what you get charged for sending your Xmas cards abroad v. carefully.
A nice lady in the post office told me that if you are only sending cards (no letters enclosed), it can be cheaper to send it as a "printed paper" rate.
For example, weight range 80-100 gm costs £2.14 to Australia or New Zealand using letter post but £1.44 using printed paper matter.
Can also be cheaper to USA or Europe - but you need to check the weight and destination. Doesn't work if you want to send a long missive, but can be used for birthday cards as well. Worth getting the Royal Mail's "Pricing made easy" leaflet to check out the full list.
As I use email to send letters but prefer a paper card to an ecard, I can now check this each time I send something.
