Casual jobs - tax paying

First of all, I do apologise if I place this thread in the wrong place.
I'm going to university from September and I am not intending to have a part-time job (at least, for the time being - I need to settle in first) as I worry it will affect my studies too much, however I know I can do casual jobs at SU and the likes. How do I pay tax from such jobs? I know that with these jobs on their own I won't hit the threshold but I currently work full-time so I may go over 7k and need to pay tax. Any pointers, much appreciated.

When I worked causally for my uni they either deducted basic income tax at source and I had to claim it back at the end of the tax year or they told me it was my responsibility to let HMRC know (not a problem as I have to self assess anyway). They also alerted HMRC to each their employees even if they didn't bother to manage the decutions for you.
