Help, where do i start???

i do not know where to start, i feel like i have debts coming out of my ears and i have now recently lost my job so i feel like there is nowhere to go....
I havent even thought about how much i am in debt......i dont even want too... EEK!
Where can i find out exactly how much i am in debt by, is there a place where all our "borrowing" is collated and held on a file?

what i can remember my debts are......

Loans - £10,500 (ish) - thanks to an ex (GRRRRRR)
Council - 4,000 (ish) - including my partners debt
other bits and bobs - 2,000 (ish)

I have been waiting for a particular company to collect my car as now i have lost my job i cant afford the repayments, I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR NEARLY 4 MONTHS!!!!

  • Ok first breath................... there you'll feel a little better already.

Right next thing to do is to get together all the paperwork you can see if you can all your debts. Make a note of all of these and then do a SOA as explained here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=107280

You've made the first step by coming in for help so now you can smile and think your already on the road to a debt free life. Welcome :D
  • You can get in touch with equifax & experian to get your credit file online.

But, find all the paperwork you can and list all the exact amounts. "Thinking" how much you owe causes stress in itself. Once you have the clear picture then you can take a deep breath and begin a plan of action with the help of all on this forum. When you are ready, post your full statement of affairs for everyone to look over and point you in the right direction.

Just don't panic. You obviously have realised you want to get this sorted, and that is the first hurdle to overcome. So well done.

Have you cancelled the direct debit? Presuming you are paying for it I mean. (If not - do it now and follow it up with a letter to them.) That will get their attention. If you already have, don't worry about it, it's not your problem.

What line of work do you do? Can you do anything temporarily whilst you look for a full time job?

Please don't panic. And I doubt you are beyond help either ;)
