I bought my house several years ago, and next year my work is sending me abroad. The plan is to do 6 months away, 6 months here, for the indefinite future. I currently have a lodger, but while I'm away I would like to get someone else in too.
If I'm away, then technically they wouldn't be lodgers and I would be a live-out landlady - so would I need to change to a buy-to-let mortgage?

The cheapest way will probably be to obtain consent to let from your existing lender - if they will give it.
