Ideas for 40th wedding anniversary present for parents

Options
Hi

Its my parents 40th wedding anniversary at the end of May, and my brother and myself would like to give them a present for the both of them that they will cherish.

Bit of history, my dad has a bad heart and is not too mobile, he does drive, but doesn;t like to go too far from home. My mum does not drive.

We are all going out for a meal on their anniversary, orgainsed by mum and dad. We are going to give them the normal bunch of flowers and bottle of bubbly.

But we would really like something that little bit different for the both of them.

They don't really have any hobbies that they share.

Any help will be gladly received.

Many thanks

Why don't you throw a party for them and invite all of their friends?

I bought my parents a lovely "ruby" coloured peony plant as part of their present, we too treated them to a lovely day out as well but wanted them to have "something" to remember the day. The plant might even have been called Ruby Wedding, if my memory is correct.

Thirteen years later the plant is still going strong in the front garden!!

You could have a special cake made with sparkler type candles and take it to the restaurant before hand, asking them to bring it out after the meal with a wedding anniversary song playing over the speakers. I would also ask them if you could decorate the table with some 40th table sprinkles and put 2 air filled foil balloons on the back of the chairs for them so a surprise when they arrive (Asdas cheap for these I found and they last for 5 days approx deflating). Although a 40th birthday for a friend we did that recently and she loved it. We also ordered a personalised champagne/wine bottle label which we go the restuarant to stick on a bottle of champagne for her. You can get these from ebay sellers we found. If you haven't got a cake shop near you to make the cake you could buy a plain white iced cake from somewhere like Marks and Spencers and order a personalised icing sheet cake topper off ebay with their picture on it and message or any design you want. They are easy to use you just freeze it for a couple of secs I found in freezer and slide it off the backing and onto the cake quickly before it unfreezes. Put in personalised cake topper in an ebay search and personalised 40th anniversary and you should get ideas.
