Hi, been 'lurking' around for some time but never posted before. I could use some advice if possible?? I am paying off a Barclaycard debt and I decided to check my credit report in the last month as we were turned down for a new current account which I thought really odd. When I looked there was a default on my report from an old Barclaycard account that I thought had been resolved years ago! Some four years ago we applied for a new mortgage and it was declined..when we questioned it it was because BC had inadvertantly marked a monthly payment as a final offer payment which closed the account and sent it to their debt collection dept...after many weeks and huge phone bills they acknowledged that this was completely their error, opened a new account, transfered the balance minus £500 compensation and wrote a letter in support of the mortgage. New house went through etc and all was quiet. BC paid every month religiously and no problems...but the original account is still showing on my credit report as being defaulted every month!! Hence my credit score is shocking!!! Slight twist to this though is the balance on the second account (original) is going down fractionally each month. I have written to BC complaining again but worried that they are going to fail to do anything with my credit report like they have done up to now.

Sorry for the long post but how do you deal with these companies?!

I think you can complain the the Credit reference agencies also and get them to push the matter. Its now causing you inconvenience. I presume given that they admitted screwing up they should remove it. Dont give up and keep pushing.
