Eyeliner that you have to sharpen

Does anyone here still use the pencil eyeliners that you have to sharpen? I used to use them but always found them fiddly and messy but I need a new one and don't know which to go for.

If you can't be bothered with sharpening one because you find it fiddly why don't you get one of those push-up solid ones that don't need sharpening? I've got a couple that you twist up like a lippy

I am addicted to No7's Metallic Eye Pencil. Yes, its a pain having to sharpen it, but it comes in beautiful bright metallic colours, which don't need to be to sharpened if like me you prefer them thickly smudged around the eye.

I have currently got in the green, and blue colourway, which is a lot brighter than appears in the picture, and eliminates the need for eyeshadow. I must try the purple!

I don't like the push up/twist up ones as they're always too blunt, I like a nice sharp point. I've got a twist up eyebrow pencil at the moment that I'm torn about because the colour is perfect for me but I just prefer the pencils I can sharpen. I've actually tried to sharpen it with a penknife but it didn't really work.
  • I've recently started using an Avon Glimmersticks eyeliner (after years of using a cream or gel liner, applied with a flat brush) and it does an ok job but, if there's a way to sharpen it, I haven't found it and it's not quite the same now it's blunt. I might try a pencil type, even if it does take a lot of sharpening. Odds on I'll end up going back to the cream or gel!

I've not had a problem with Rimmel's ones, they've been pretty good for me.
You can also get sharpeners in Primark

How is sharpening a pencil a pain? It takes seconds.

I just use the ones I like the colour and consistency of, whether they're pencil, push up or liquid.

Hi, thanks for your replies. Liquid probably goes on easier and lasts longer. I have a Clinique push up pencil at the moment but its got more expensive.

Plaese try the No 7 in that case. Its got excellent reviews. I can personally vouch for it. Goes on really well, is soft, and not scratchy, yet lasts all day, and people do comment about the nice colour.

I personally find the gel eye liners -with a good brush- much easier to use than a liquid one.

If you keep pencil eyeliners in the fridge they are easier to sharpen as they don't go all soft and smudgy - and are less likely to clog up your sharpener :D
