What would you expect the maturity value to be on this date, including all bonuses and terminal bonus?

Which version of the standard life endowment is it?
What was the target growth rate of the plan?
Is it unit linked or with profits?
Was it low start, full cost or low cost?

SL normally issue indications of current value about 3-6 months before maturity in preparation of getting you ready. Your friend has probably already had an indication. These dont include any MEP value where applicable and in some cases, where the SL plan is conventional WP and not unitised WP), it hasnt included the final bonus.

He did try setting a no win no fee firm onto them but they turned him down for that reason.

Do you think £24,000 is expecting too much?

Depending on what version of the SL endowment is, then yes I do. Some of their versions dont project with the final bonus included or more accurately, they project from the surrender value rather than the current position. However, whilst it should be up on last year, you cant see it jumping that much. If it has an MEP, then that is not included in the projections.
