Getting picture from monitor to display on TV

Options
I want to watch films that are currently on my hard drive on my TV. (Don't want to have to buy an independent DVD player) Have got the leads and connected everything up - however, the sound is fine but the picture only appears in black and white. Does anyone have any ideas as to why and what I can do to fix it, (hopefully!). :(

it sounds like your videocard might be outputting an NTSC signal (american tv format) maybe there is a switch or software setting to change from NTSC to PAL (English TV format)

I had this problem too on a compaq. There were a couple of things that I needed to check.

In the BIOS There was some setting like PAL/NSTC which obviously needs to be set to PAL.

However, in windows, Right click on background select Properties. Go to settings | advanced. My pc has ATI integrated and I needed to set PAL and UK in there too.

If you make the change in windows and it changes back - then you need to find the setting in the BIOS. Took me ages to figure that one out.....

My videocard is NVidea GeForce 4MX 440SE but try as I might I cannot find any settings for it re Pal/NTSC to check how it is set. I'm not too computer savvey and the thought of messing about with BIOS frightens me to death!!!

Tried the 'in Windows = R click, properties, settings, advanced' etc but couldn't find anything there either.

Been trying to get this sorted for months now and just keep going round in circles! ::)

  • You using S-Video or Composite Cables?

ATI TV OUT capable products do not support TV OUT in native PAL-M and PAL-N formats.
