Halifax and Robinson Way

I'm getting haranged by Robinson Way, after I'd set up a payment plan of £1 a month with Halifax for credit card debt (they agreed that I could pay £1 until I started a job when I would be able to pay more; I've paid £10 the last two months.

Robinson Way have called me pretty much every day around noontime, I've refused to speak to them until I got a letter as I had no idea who they were; Halifax didn't tell me they were passing on my account.

I finally got the standard letter through from Robinson Way, so today I deigned to speak to them. They insist I should be paying them and not through my account at the Halifax. But Halifax are still sending me statements, and allowing me to pay through their website, and to be honest I don't feel right about paying anyone when Halifax themselves haven't told me to do so, and are accepting the payments.

Who's right, should I be paying Robinson Way, or the actual account at the Halifax?

You pay whoever Halifax say you should be paying.

You certainly don't pay a debt collector one penny until you have confirmation from the original creditor that this is what you should be doing.

That's what I thought - anyone can write a letter and say they've taken a debt over!

I logged onto my Halifax account and rung the number for the credit card line; they have confirmed that it has been passed to Robinson Way and apologise for not writing to me yet (they've been swamped apparently...). They also said even if I were to able to meet the arrears it would stay with Robinson Way (I'm expecting £300 tax back which would almost meet that, but I want it to go to my baby emergency fund (I'm doing the Dave Ramsey TMMO plan).

Spoke to somebody human at Robinson Way to confirm what had been said, and they still insist on making a £1 payment plan with me, but oh so kindly said if I can pay more I can do incremental payments. Bet I still get endless phone calls though...

Am still feeling good though, because this week I paid off my smallest most annoying debt - and closed account straight away :T

As long as you have it confirmed then. :)
