Prawn and smoked salmon cocktail - trying to replicate restaurant starter.

Had a fantastic meal in The Toad, Colwyn Bay and the starter was a smoked salmon and prawn cocktail, which was delicious. It was served in a glass with shredded iceberg lettuce and halved cherry tomatoes and seemed to be prawns in a seafood sauce - presumably tomato ketchup and mayonaise with some small slivers of smoked salmon, but I wasn't paying that much attention - just over come by the view and how lovely it was, and really hope someone here can help... Could it be that simple?

I used to work in a restaurant where we made something similar (we made cornets out of the smoked salmon, which were filled with prawns in Marie Rose sauce and served on a bed of lettuce. As far as I remember, the sauce was ketchup, mayo and brandy...0

If say a starter for two people, would that be about a tablespoon of brandy?
Thank you ever so much.0 -
my recipe for marie rose sauce is
equal quantities of mayo, salad cream and tomato ketchup (NOT tomato puree)
dash of worstershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste0 -
Thank you. I'll try that!0

Couple of ideas for you, one from the trade the other from the BBC.
The trade one seems more likely to offer the sauce you enjoyed, although the serving suggestion is somewhat different.
The BBC one is a completely different take on the dish but is a very easy to prepare recipe.

i love Prawn Mayo that you get in the supermarkets to have with a Jacket Potato and have it with a salad with lots of red onion and black pepper:DIf say a starter for two people, would that be about a tablespoon of brandy?
Thank you ever so much.
I'd been meaning to get myself a wee bottle of Brandy just to make the sauce, but seem to never get round to it. Tho' maybe it's the price of the brandy that puts me off!:cool:0 -
Those both sound great and although the good food one is different, it still contains my two favourite ingredients.0
