Hi all,
Im in the process of setting up a home office, and could do with a new desk, just something simple to sit at and use my laptop. Noticed the leather chair earlier for £20 that looks like a good purchase, but need somewhere to sit at. MFI is a possibilty with the tesco points x 4, but any suggestions of other shops would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, particle board desks are awfully dangerous - much worse than wardrobes etc. with regard to sturdiness. Would you consider going to a house clearance shop/ lower end antique shops and getting a lovely solid oak desk (made in 1st half of 20th century) for less than a chipboard one costs new. They don't have to look old fashioned either, we have some of this furniture and it looks great in our modern house.

yeah, that sort of thing sounds a little more classy than a sliding keyboard rest. Could have a look around my local area i guess, see what going on.0

I just say because we had a £200 MFI desk (ie not the cheapest) and we moved it to the other site of the room, the screws ripped out of the chipboard and it had to be propped together by moving the wardrobe next to it and wedging it against the wall!

Also just rereading your post - since yuo have a laptop you could buy a bureau and then when its not in use the front could slide down and hide it all away.

I got mine from Ikea, it solid pine and looks good. Its been through 2 house moves in the last 6 months and has survived intact
