Where to buy cheap but quality stationery from?

Hi Folks

I am in the process of looking for work. I am thinking of sending out spec letters to local businesses in the hope of finding a job.

Can you please advice if I should send my cv and covering letter in an A4 sized envelope or fold up the covering letter and cv, and send them in a smaller sized envelope (would be cheaper!).

I am also thinking of getting address labels done to put on the from of the envelopes. Could you recommend a cheap place which could do that for me?

Also, can you recommend any places (perhaps on a website) where I can buy cheap good quality envelopes and stamps? Would I be able to get a discount if I buy stamps in bulk?

You could try eBay. They'll have some good cheap stuff.

I PERSONALLY hate the big A4 envelopes, and to be honest, if a CV came in to me, I wouldn't really care about the size of the envelope.

Looks better in an A4 envelope, but in most cases, a receptionist or secretary will open your letter before it gets to the person in charge of making recruitment decisions, so you can't really guarantee how many bends your CV and letter will have in them before they're seen by the right person anyway.

Costco is generally the best place for stamps in bulk. If you don't have a card, ask around friends and family in case one of them has one and is happy to either buy the stamps for you, or to take you on a Costco shopping trip one day.

I would think smaller envelopes would be better as most people would be used to receiving letters in this size envelope anyway. I don't think I've ever received a letter in an A4 envelope unless it's a large document of several pages.

If I ever recieve a letter in an A4 envelope I think that the person who sent it is a wastrel. Unless it is too thick to bend or a certificate, it should be folded.

Sorry, but A5 is a better size, and cheaper on the postage.....

I'd be more bothered about what was on the CV than the kind of envelope it came in.

A lot of companies make cut backs themselves by making small changes such as cheaper paper/ stationery. They may think you're being resourceful by using a cheap envelope!
