Aldi Tomato Ketchup

I've been using Aldi Tomato Ketchup for years, and it's been just fine. My latest bottle though doesn't taste as good, more vinegary. Have they changed the recipe (for the worse), or am I imagining things?

(Mrs S seems to think it tastes just the same as always!)

If you have an old bottle and a new bottle why not just compare the ingredients?

Because I don't keep my old bottles!

Unless you work for aldi head office or the company who makes it your very unlikely to know with out the label info.
Even with the label you may not know its changed if the order of the ingredients have not changed.

Just could be a bad / out of spec batch that was not picked up on before despatching.

we used to always buy their brown sauce which was very good then they obviously changed the recipe as the new one was awful and my lot wouldnt touch it

Fair enough. I was hoping for perhaps a simpler answer though, i.e. a few people saying they'd also noticed a difference (or not!).

with tomato sauce as its a long shelf life.

it it has changed may not be in all the stores yet and still using old batches so they may say no even if it has changed.

They may have changed it for other reasons like removing addatives etc rather than a goal of cheapening etc.

they may have changed where they source there tomato from which results in a different flavour rather than changing the ratio of the ingredients.

Or it oculd be a simple as the vinegar used was just more "vinegary" than standard.

Yes, I know, but I'm not sure I want to know the answer enough to go ferretting around various stores! They've recently run a campaign comparing their version with Heinz, which makes me wonder if they've at the same time tinkered with the recipe to make it taste more like the Heinz product.

It's definately changed. I used to buy the large bottles of Bramwells ketchup for quite a while and always found it to be very nice ketchup. I purchased one of the new smaller bottles a few weeks back and the flavour has changed quite considerably for the worse.

some times different size bottles are made at different companies under license. So the big bottle may be the same as you remember it.
Of course they could have just changed it though.,

Not sure if it helps but I had something similar happen with a product from another store: I noticed it looked very different, chunky soup when it previously had been smooth.
I wrote an email to the company as I liked the way it used to be and assumed they had changed the recipy. They wrote back to me with an apology, a £2 voucher and saying their griding machine had not been working and the blades on it had needed to be changed. I recently bought the same product and it had been put back to normal.

It could just be they have sourced an ingredient from a different company or used too much of something without realising and its ruined the taste, if you ask them they may be able to explain to you what, if anything, has happened and why.
