Are shops open tomorrow?

I thought I would avoid the royal wedding by going shopping, but a colleague tells me that M&S, Tesco etc are shut until 1pm!

This can't be right, can it?

Well, I've just done some Googling and it seems M&S are shut until 1. Will report further on other shops!

Just phoned our Tesco Extra (automated system), it says normal opening hours on Friday 29th (ie 24hr), then 9-6am on Monday 2nd.

Debenhams open as normal. It seems like it's just M&S and possibly John Lewis (didn't bother to check with them as it's too far away).

Thank heavens, was beginning to think I wouldn't be able to get away from the thing!
  • Hi
Whilst waiting in the lottery queue at our local Asda, I overheard the Customer Services assistant confirm they were open as normal on 29th.
    HTH.

Looks like it may be store dependent. Whilst the M&S website says yours opens from 13:00-18:00, for ours it says 09:00-18:00.

Clarks are definitely open as I rang head office to find out. My daughters new school shoes have rubbed her feet raw in one day and we're away this weekend, so it was a relief to find they're open. Pam purred pets is open too (its a chain but might just be south east).

I think some places are open as 'normal'- for example, I asked in Wilkinsons in my (small) city today and they are open 9-5. BUT I did see that M&S isn't open until 1. Basically, I think everyone is making it up as they go along, but I am quite confident most chain/larger shops are going to be open, at least from 1PM. I assume the 1PM thing is because the staff want to watch the wedding? *shrug* I shall be in bed reading, enjoying my day off work!
  • mcdonalds is open lol :T
  • there is no post though - I think the royal mail has the day off?
