Austins (Aldi's Pimms) £5.49 a bottle

It's that Pimms time of year :beer:

Aldi have their version, Austins, on sale again at £5.49 a bottle (was £5.99 last year).

Anyone who hasn't tried it is is every bit as good as the real thing for half the price.

Thanks for the review...My OH loves Pimms I'll have to get some and not tell him ......

I mentioned it last year and he thought it would taste naff, no one we know has tried it.

I used Austins in the Pimms fountain at my wedding, it went down very well indeed! Great value for money. Try it with a mix of ginger ale and lemonade for an added kick.

I did a blind taste test of real Pimms and Austins (was mixed up with lemonade etc)with some friends last year and no-one could tell which was which. However, I do like the look of the real pimms bottle - maybe I'll start decanting Austins into an empty Pimms bottle!

'Cheat's Pimms' from The Times - indistinguishable from the original:

Mixing a Cheat’s Pimm’s is easy. All you need is to take a measure of a good strong 40 per cent gin, and for every measure of gin you pour into a tall glass or large jug, add a measure of red vermouth (French or Italian will do), plus a half measure of Bols Orange Curaçao. I like to add a slice each per person of fresh orange, lemon and cucumber and occasionally, if there is a glut of them, a sliced strawberry too. Resist the temptation of gilding the lily and emptying the entire contents of your fruit bowl into your jug. Make certain too that the fruit you use is really fresh and without blemish, as the alcohol will leach out any rotten bits in the fruit and a muddy-tasting mix will be the result. A sprig each of borage and mint is optional but adds some pleasing herby, bosky overtones.

I think the £3 bottles were their "winter cup" version, rather than the one equivalent to the summer Pimms. Still very nice though!

I got it a few weeks ago, it's ok but I think it's not as good as Pimms. Didn't taste quite right and was less fizzy with lemonade than with real Pimms but I'd say it's an ok alternative.

we have this its lovely, i also get the jeeves from tesco, all tastes the same, think its £7. tesco are also doing 2 bottles of pimms for £22. add some cucmumber, orange, lemon, mint leaves and ice and lemonade and away you go, lovely on those hot spring evenings lol

Had some today in garden, can't tell difference from Pimms at all, lovely!
