Playstation Network Hacked
Dear elizabeth,
As part of your Identity Protection we want to keep you up-to-date with stories that could impact the security of your personal information.
You may have seen in the news that a hacker has broken into Sony's Playstation Network and stolen the personal information of its customers. According to Sony's official statement the data stolen includes name, address, country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password, login, password security answers, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may also have been obtained.
More than 70 million people worldwide are affected, including several million UK residents.

I ENTER ALL THE PLAYSTATION NETWORK COMPS WHICH ARE REGULARLY LISTED ON HERE SO I KNOW A LOT OF YOU WILL PROBABLY ALSO BE REGISTERED WITH THEM SO YOU WILL NEED TO BE AWARE THAT YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS & EVEN YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO, IF YOU HAVE REGISTERED THAT WITH THEM, MAY HAVE BEEN STOLEN & COULD BE BEING TRADED ON THE INTERNET. I HAVE TRIED TO LOG IN TO MY ACCOUNT TO SEE WHAT DETAILS OF MINE ARE REGISTERED BUT THE SITE IS DOWN OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE OF THE SECURITY BREACH BUT SUGGEST THAT YOU ALL CHECK YOUR ACCOUNTS ASAP. I WAS GOING TO SUBMIT A POST ON THE COMPS THREAD AS IT IS MORE LIKELY TO BE SEEN BY EVERYBODY THERE BUT IT WOULD ONLY BE REMOVED BY THE BGS SO DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE I CAN DO TO BRING IT TO PEOPLE'S ATTENTION UNLESS ANYONE ELSE HAS ANY IDEAS

Thanks Liz, I heard about this on the news. Luckily I haven't given them my card details as I only enter the comps, but some people may not be so lucky.

I use hubby's account for the comps & his card details are there for some games he does. He doesn't seem overly worried yet, apart from not being able to play at moment lol, so we're following the news on this closely.

the information they have stolen even without credit card information is more than enough for identity theft to occur. I have been contacted again with the following information & suggest that everybody takes the relevant precautions to prevent anybody setting up fraudulent accounts/credit in your names. My credit card details were not stolen but PSN had all other details including DOB etc stolen.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

    Thank you for contacting us.
In order for us to process and register CIFAS protective registration
    for you, we need you to agree to the following conditions;

    FAIR PROCESSING NOTICE
I hereby request Protective Registration under the CIFAS ? The UK?s
Fraud Prevention Service scheme, and declare that the information
supplied in this application is true and correct. I agree to the
information being made available to the Members of CIFAS and to fraud
prevention agencies participating in CIFAS. Law enforcement agencies may
also access and use this information. We and other organisations may
also access and use this information to prevent fraud and money
    laundering, for example when:

? Checking details on applications for credit and credit related or
    other facilities
? Managing credit and credit related or other facilities
    ? Recovering debt
? Checking details on proposals and claims for all types of insurance
? Checking details of job applicants and employees

I am aware that CIFAS and the fraud prevention agencies will also use
the records for statistical analysis about fraud. I understand that
Protective Registration will remain on the CIFAS database for a minimum
of twelve (12) months. I understand that Protective Registration is a
benefit to me, CIFAS and its Members. I accept that CIFAS and its
Members will make all reasonable efforts to protect me from fraud. I
understand that Protective Registration may result in a slight delay to
any applications I or other members of my household make whilst checks
    are carried out.

  • As a regular user of the PSN I contacted my bank (Barclays) the day this story broke. They told me that they were aware of the hack and were in regular contact with SONY. In the meantime, they have put a note on my account to flag any unusual activity but also said that I was covered anyway by some online fraud protection linked to my account.
Nice of SONY to come out and apologise (a week after the hack ) and said they would be offering all users affected compensation. 1 months free access to Playstation Plus and a couple of games to download! Bloody insult in you ask me
