Goodmans Twin Tuner Freeview Box £99.50 @ Asda

Bought a Goodmans twin tuner digibox from Asda (Accrington) for only £90 (normal price £99.50 as I got 10% staff discount)

http://www.goodmans.co.uk/productdetails.aspx?pid=GHD8015F2&language=en-GB

Great little box of tricks but it couldn't record two channels at once until I found out on the web how to connect it the the PC and make it record two TV channels at the same time. Been using it now for over a week with no problems whatsoever. Good usability and no freezing unlike the rubbish box from Aldi.

It's the exact same box that Argos are selling under the digihome pvr80 name but with Asda you get the 28 day guarantee thingybob that's exempt at Argos

My Aldi box went back within 24 hours. just as poor as the ones they sold earlier in the year. Froze more than water in the north pole with an EPG made up of disimilar shades of blue and an overall poor usability

That two-channel record firmware does not leave room for a full 7-day EPG according to posts on digitalspy..

So what do you get with the EPG?
Is it just less than 7 days ( i.e 5 days) or does the EPG not work at all ?

My EPG still works just fine?????

EDIT: does take a few minutes to fill the 7 days but it's neither here nor there

I think the EPG issue is it doesn't have a enough memory to cache the all EPG data for 7 days so you need to wait for some of it to download when you access it. It's similar to many freeview boxes where often it will say no program information until it downloads the EPG details.

The new Daewoo PVR's which are dual tuners + allow playback while dual recording are getting good initial write ups on Digital Spy.

My Goodmans does now take a few minutes to fill in the EPG from switch on after the twin_tuner upgrade, but that's a miniscule price to pay for the recording two whilst watching one facility

The Daewoo DSD9502T boxes are £89.99 at https://www.tecno.co.uk exl delivery.
They were £10 cheaper last week!!

The Daewoo box is identical in every feature bar looks to the Goodmans/Digihome except returning it to an internet store is more of a chore if it goes wrong than returning it to th'asda

Does the digihome / goodmans allow you to watch from the harddisk while recording 2 channels?

Yes, but only after doing the upgrade listed in the first post

Standard it's a record one, watch another with no timeshifting allowed when recording

after firmware upgrade it's a record 2 whilst you watch a recording
or watch one channel, timeshift another.
