CCJ nearly off file but showing as active

Options
Hi, when it comes to money saving and advice, I always come here and usually I find what I am looking for without needing to post. Apart from today.

Short story, looking to rent a property and new landlords have completed a credit check for which I was refused due to an active CCJ. Now here comes the dilema, the debt was settled in 2007 with a credit agency. They did not inform the original company who still show £150 outstanding from the £2.5k I owed. I have spoken to all parties involved and am trying to get them to communicate with each other, so wheels in motion, but what do I do about the CCJ showing as active? It is due to drop from my file on May 13th, yes this year, 16 days away!

By the way, I was unaware of the CCJ as I moved alot during this time, cleared all of my debts in 2007, and did not apply for any credit just stuck to building my credit back up the hard way, utilities electoral roll no defaults etc so this is why its not shown until now.

Should I bother trying to get it updated as I am not going to be applying for any other credit for a good few years, or do I just let it drop off?

They drop off your file in 6 years, or 5 in Scotland.

    2011 - 2007 is only 4 years????
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Wow thanks for the quick reply, the CCJ was issued in 2005, debt cleared in 07, so should have been showing as settled all that time.

Sorry, only 2007 was mentioned in your post.

I think I'd be inclined to let it just drop off seeing as its so close.

    Couple of weeks, it'll be a breeze:D

Just wait a couple of weeks, let it drop off. That'll be easier than expecting any DCA to actually do something for you.
  • I think I actually have the two companies talking to each other  so fingers x'd I will get a letter tomorrow confirming the debt is cleared, which can go to the credit referencing company to give us the all clear!

Will update with how I get on. I just dont think it fair that they can settle the debt, but not actually update my details and leave me with a black mark for all this time! Goes to show that I really should have checked my file myself sooner.

Even if the CCJ is marked as closed/settled it'll still stay on file until the 6 year mark. Just so you know it'll still show for another couple of weeks anyway.
