Incapacity benefit payment while sel-employed

I would like if possible clarification on which Self Assessment tax year to put incapacity benefit payments while self-employed

For example

The period that my books are made up to each year which is 30 April (would I count benefit payments in this period and submit at the same time as earned income for the same period)

or

6 April to following 5 April (would I count any benefit payments in this period and submit at the same time as any bank interest etc)

I hope that makes sense - but perhaps not

Thank you
