Guarantor chased for debt.

Hiya,
I think I know there isn't much we can do, but I'm trying anyway.
My family member stood as a guarantor for his daughter when she took out some stuff from Currys a couple of years ago (within 6 years). He didn't intend on doing it but was put on the spot so agreed.
He has suffered from financial abuse from this woman for years because of his ill health he couldn't put up a fight. He's just paid off a few thousand over the last month or so from her using his credit cards and thought that was all of it. He's now got a letter saying she's defaulted with the payments and he must now pay the outstanding balance.
As you can imagine there is now a relationship breakdown, they no longer speak because of all that has gone on, she has only stopped paying this out of spite as she said she would when he cut her off.
As I say, I doubt there is any other way, but does he have to pay this? Is there a certain period after she defaults before they can contact him or anything?
He is unwilling to go to the police about it all.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Thanks for any advice.

Im sorry I dont know about the legal standing, but someone in the know will be along shortly on this front.
Another angle-you say he has been financially abused for years? What is his age? Could he be classed as vulnerable? You may be able to refer this to social services to investigate. Inter family financial abuse is, sadly, very common.0 -
He is 74, the district nurse has managed to get him under the care of a social worker. He's never one to ask for help or tell people, I didn't find all this out until after it happened and he's paid it all off.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0

If he has a social worker, I think you need to tell them. At the very least, they should be able to prevent this happening again. Does he manage his own finances/if not who has ?
This could well protect him in the future0 -
He manages his own yes. I'm going to get him to contact CFAS and get a password put on his credit file as well.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0
