Unsure of my next step......

Options
I have been paying a loan between myself and my ex for the last few years - the last payment will be made in July. This loan had been passed to Debt Managers Ltd from Abbey National and therefore has been classed as a default (I'm guessing) on my credit file.

I'm aware that this default will show for the next 6 years (till my credit file "clears") but am sure in years gone by .... when I was very badly behaved and didnt really pay anything..... I had a few debts for different credit cards and loans etc, none more than about £300 each, which have not "chased" me for years and I dont even have the details of anymore ..... I know its irresponsible and looking back I wish I had never done it!!

Anyway, I need some advice.

Firstly, do I need to contact each individual credit reference agency to get a copy of my file from each one or do they share all the information with each other?

Secondly, is it worthwhile me even trying to pay the smaller ones off now as the damage has been done and it may well be that a few of them are over six years old!!

Lastly...... does anyone have any great ideas on how to repair my credit rating??? I have a mobile phone these days which I pay every month and am on the electoral roll, but as it stands I cant get credit to prove to anyone I am a reformed character!!

If anyone can help me it would be great!!

Thanks a lot

xxxx

    Hi

If these are very old debts and you have not apid anything towards them for 6 years (E&W _ Scotland 5 years), they may be statute barred anyway, meaning you are not required to pay them at all.

I am so mixed up and have such a terrible memory I dont even know how old they are!!!

The main one which myself and my ex have almost paid was for £19k and we only have £800 odd left to pay which is at least something!!

We split up in February 2008 but I am pretty sure at least a couple of them were 2004/2005 so they will be long gone.

In a way I am glad I cant get credit.....stops the temptation of getting some!!!
