Honeymoon confusion

Ok so H2B and I are keen snowboarders and we had decided to go to Canada and have a 2 week holiday there (10 days in resort and a few days in Vancouver).:j

H2B put a spanner in the works over the weekend and said

"Would you not rather have a sun/beach holdiay so we can just relax after a hectic few weeks"

Sounds great but we have no idea where we would want to go.

We have considered Thailand and the Bahamas but they are so more expensive then we were planning :(

Anyone want to share where they are going to give me some idead?

Thanks in advance

Not sure if this is something you are interested in.

  • Why don't you have a few days somewhere in the UK to relax after a busy few weeks, then go off to Canada snowboarding? Then you can wind down before you go.

We're doing a week in the Isle of Wight (my parents have an apartment over there) before we go on our honeymoon for this precise reason!

Have a look at Dubai...or one of the emirates like abu dhabi....its hot and there are loads of things to do...theres even ski dubai the indoor ski centre which is great fun...probably not that challenging if you are good snowboarders but we had a great couple of hours there....sand boarding is also great there and you hire all the kit quite cheaply.
We had 10 days in Dubai...and to be honest about 7 would have been perfect...we packed in loads of things ...the souks...desert safari...dune bashing...bit of beach and waterpark...and some great sightseeing....and some wonderful shopping malls too.

When is the wedding? There are lots of places you can go for relaxing in the sun without having to go long haul.

    Wedding is in February.

We're going to go Snowboarding as Easter so H2B son doesn't miss out on his skiing holiday in 2012 so we're not too gutted to not go boarding.:j

In fact a beach holiday with watersports and a huge pile of books now quite appeals to us!

I've always fancied Bora Bora or Thailnand so may pursue them and see if we can find a good deal.

My parents said they would pay but as their paying for the Wedding (and put me through Uni) and really don't want any more money from them.

It just means we're going to try and make the wedding budget stretch further for less which I am happy to do.

  • You can go Paris For many, it's the ultimate honeymoon destination, and why not? There's fine French dining, elegant shopping boulevards, renowned museums (Musee d'Orsay, Louvre) and swoon-worthy sights (Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur), entertainment at places like the Opera Garnier, and ultra-chic accommodations.

The Gambia!!! I went there a few years ago - and the weather is beautiful, only a 6hr flight but it's on the same line as the bahamas and it's lovely - plus a wee bit different. There's lots of good watersports there too and trips you can go on...

We booked our own flights through skyscanner and booked our own accommodation at sundowners apartments in kololi which meant we lived in an area where local people lived and had a much nicer holiday. All in it cost us £400 each for 20 nights sc....!! I loved it and can't wait to go back at some point!! There are also lots of hotels in the area if you want to book through an agent.

Cape Verde is also quite nice but a bit pricier...

If you thought the Bahamas was expensive then you will find Bora Bora and the rest of French Polynesia disgustingly expensive, I know - I've looked!

Feb is peak season for the Indian Ocean (Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius etc) so you are looking at least £2,000 each for a two week trip. How about Mexico, lots of choice, lots to do. Have been to Cuba and loved it, most of the Caribbean will be in peak season in February so you will have the pick of the bunch :)

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D
