Definitely don't go for the two that have Celeron D processors. D are for desktops and are much worse than the Celeron M's.dmcwe wrote:Which one is the "best".....

Its a bit of an unfair comparison since there are more laptops at Comet around the same price as the Dixons one you got there.0 -
Oh dear. Some people expect the whole world at a cheap price.
Mobile/laptop CPUs are a low clock rate for a reason - battery life + heat reasons.
Sure Photoshop (or anything else processor intensive) would be much slower. But then if so go and use a desktop, or spend more on a laptop to get more.
This ebuyer offering is a fantastic deal. It has built in WiFi and does the job. It is fine for Internet + office + email + all the other usual/common tasks.0 -
My usage of a laptop is limited for 3 things Internet ,a bit of Open Office 1.1.4 and running my PERL compiler (I am a programmer). All the programs on this laptop are light freeware and barely use 60% of the RAM. I think that even £1 more investment in a laptop for these usages is an overkill for me.
A 4 year old CPU doesn't mean that any of the above usage will be slower than any other monster for far more £££. I don't play games just need a functional pc that stay cool. So the total investment is about £0.38/day for the next 3 years which is usually the life cycle of a laptop in my lab (which is a fantastic deal).Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

True, I suppose it all comes down to what you're gonna use it for...No reliance should be placed on the above.0

i'm looking for a laptop to use with my new video projector. looking for something which will basically be useful for powerpoint presentations, and would also like to be able to get wireless networking going in my house. would like it to be reasonably zippy as my desktop is so and would like to not feel like i have to wind it up!!! i'd also use it for some working on the move, though not an excessive amount!
any suggestions?
i also have a mate who is in the states at the moment: she could prob bring me one back if that is allowed: i understand they're much cheaper over there?Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
Avantra,
Thanks for the post. Unfortunately one of the downsides of this board is that it is haunted by lurking computer geeks ready to sneer at you and try and shoot down in flames any post that claims to be good value on the pc front. I've seen it time and time again. They post stuff like "This one's better......."
Well if they knew that why didn't the selfish sods post it earlier instead of lurking with their wee bit of information ready to use it to be down on someone else?
Wait til the next time someone posts on the subject of computers and see if I'm proved right.
Also, some of them seem to be sponsored by Dell.0 -
If you're just "I want a laptop now but I don't know why!" then try looking on Internet forums with 'For Sale' forums or eBay etc. I'm sometimes amazed by the sort of high spec laptops people are trying to get rid of for very cheap prices
