I've been giving the old voucher system a hammering over the last couple of months and it really is pot luck. If you go into a large Tesco's you can normally get away with a few on the self scan as long as your not to greedy. Saying that I spent £5.86 last night and put two £1 vouchers from the Somerfields magazine in and it asked for manual intervention. Supervisor came over and cleared the problem, lucky there. Could have been I put the same voucher in twice as I think you can get away with £2 on £5.86.

When doing a big shop don't be lulled into a false sense of security. I was happily going to the same checkout lad and not only was he taking all my sainsburys magazine vouchers he was letting me split my shop and use two lots....Nice Lad. Went in and headed for him a few weeks ago and he told me he wasn't allowed to take any coupons from me and that he'd nearly been sacked. made me feel bad so I don't bother him anymore.
Twice last week I used the £5 and £1 vouchers from the Somerfields mag and twice the superviser came over and said they were ok. Lucky again.

Finally the easiest way to use coupons would appear to be in the Express shops. Ok some won't take them but some will take as many as you've got so it's trial and error. The main thng I have learnt is that if you kick the backside out of it you'll generally get your backside kicked.

    Here endeth the sermon.
